Manage projects and tasks through a powerful GraphQL API

CommunicationProductivityProjectsDatabaseAutomation

Blue is a modern project management platform that organises teams around projects, tasks, and custom workflows — all powered by a GraphQL API. Connect it to Actionist and your agents can create and update tasks, pull progress data, invite team members, tag records for triage, and query any corner of your project data — all without anyone opening Blue manually.

Deal closed — client project ready in Blue

When HubSpot fires a Closed Won event, the agent creates a Blue project from the client onboarding template, populates custom fields with the deal value and account manager, invites the account manager, and posts the project link to the #new-clients Slack channel — the delivery team has a live board before the sales rep has finished celebrating.

With Actionist

What your agent runs for you

  • Sales
    20 min / week
Manual project creation on deal close

After a deal closes, someone on the ops team logs into Blue, creates a project, adds custom fields, and invites the account manager — usually later that day or the next morning.

    Sales Agent
    0 min
Agent creates the project the moment the deal closes

When HubSpot fires the Closed Won event, the agent creates the Blue project from the template, populates fields, and invites the account manager — the board is live before the sales call ends.

  • Marketing
    25 min / week
Manual campaign project setup each quarter

For each new campaign the team creates a Blue project, sets up stages, adds custom fields, and invites the relevant channel leads — typically taking 20 to 30 minutes per campaign.

    Marketing Agent
    0 min
Agent scaffolds campaign projects from templates automatically

When a new campaign is confirmed in Notion, the agent creates the Blue project from the campaign template, tags it by channel, and invites leads — the team has a ready board in under a minute.

  • Customer Support
    15 min / week
    Manual incident tracking across tools

When a critical ticket comes in, someone manually creates a Blue record, adds a checklist, assigns it, and tags it — often under pressure and sometimes with steps missed.

    Customer Support Agent
    0 min
Agent creates a structured incident record in seconds

The agent creates a Blue record with a standard response checklist, tags it, assigns the on-call engineer, and posts the link to Slack — all within about a minute of the escalation.

  • Human Resources
    30 min / week
Onboarding projects created manually for each new hire

HR manually creates a Blue project for each incoming employee, sets up the checklist, populates custom fields, and invites the manager — typically the day before start date when time is short.

    Human Resources Agent
    0 min
Agent creates and prepopulates onboarding projects automatically

When a new hire appears in the HRIS two weeks before their start date, the agent creates the Blue project, pre-fills all custom fields, and invites the manager — no HR involvement required.

  • Finance
    22 min / week
Manual end-of-month task export for invoicing

The accounts team opens Blue, filters by project and tag, exports completed tasks, copies values into the billing sheet, and checks for gaps — a process taking 60 to 90 minutes each month.

    Finance Agent
    0 min
Agent exports billable tasks to the billing sheet automatically

The agent runs a custom GraphQL export of all billable completed records and writes them to the billing sheet on the last business day — the accounts team starts invoicing with a complete pre-populated data set.

  • Operations
    50 min / week
Weekly project status assembled manually from Blue

Ops opens each Blue project, counts tasks, notes completion rates, and builds a summary for leadership — typically taking 45 to 60 minutes every Monday morning.

    Operations Agent
    0 min
Agent writes the leadership dashboard before the all-hands

The agent queries Blue for completion metrics across all projects, writes the data to Google Sheets, and posts the dashboard link to Slack — leadership has the data before 8 AM without ops lifting a finger.

  • Legal
    20 min / week
Manual search for legal-review tasks each Monday

The legal team manually opens each Blue project, filters for review-pending tasks, and compiles the list — typically taking 20 minutes and prone to missing tasks in less-watched projects.

    Legal Agent
    0 min
Agent surfaces all legal-review tasks in a single Monday digest

The agent searches Blue across every project for 'legal-review-pending' tagged records and posts a digest to Slack — the full legal review queue is ready before the team's first coffee.

How to plug Blue into Actionist

Pick the connection method that suits your environment.

Connect via Blue's two-part API token. You need both the Token ID and Token Secret from your Blue API settings — both are required, and both are treated as secrets.

1
Open Blue API Settings

Log in to your Blue account, go to Account Settings, and navigate to API Settings.

2
Generate a Token Pair

Click Generate Token to create a new API token pair. Copy both the Token ID and the Token Secret — you will not be able to retrieve the Token Secret again after closing the dialog.

3
Paste into Actionist

Enter both values in Actionist's Blue connection form and click Test Connection. Actionist will verify the handshake against the Blue GraphQL endpoint before saving.

FAQs

Questions about Blue + Actionist

How does Actionist connect to Blue?
Go to the Apps tab, find Blue, and click Connect. Blue uses a two-key authentication method — you need both a Token ID and a Token Secret from your Blue account settings. In Blue, navigate to Account Settings → API Settings, generate a new API token pair, and paste both values into Actionist. The agent runs a test query to confirm the handshake before any operations run.
What Blue operations can an agent run?
Agents can list companies and projects, create projects from templates, create and update records (tasks/todos) with custom fields and checklists, tag records, invite users to projects, retrieve records with advanced filtering, and execute custom GraphQL queries for operations beyond the standard set. Triggers are not currently supported — operations run on a schedule or in response to events in other connected apps.
Can the agent automatically create a Blue project when a deal closes in my CRM?
Yes. Connect Blue and your CRM (HubSpot, Pipedrive, Salesforce) to Actionist. When the Sales Agent detects a deal moving to Closed Won status, it calls Create Project using your chosen template and populates custom fields from the CRM data — deal value, account manager, client name. The project is live in Blue within about a minute of the deal closing, and the account manager is invited automatically.
Does the agent support Blue's custom fields?
Yes. Agents can both read and write custom fields. Use List Custom Fields to retrieve the field IDs and types for a project, then pass values for those fields when calling Create Record or Update Record. This lets agents populate project-specific data — contract value, priority tier, client contact, or any field your team has configured — from external sources without manual data entry.
Can the agent sync task completion status from other tools into Blue?
Yes. When an event fires in an external tool — a pull request merges in GitHub, an invoice is paid in Stripe, or a document is approved in Google Drive — the agent searches Blue for the matching task using a keyword search on the task title, then calls Mark Record Complete. The project board stays accurate without anyone switching apps to update a task manually.
How do I generate a weekly project status report from Blue automatically?
Configure the Operations Agent to run every Monday morning. It calls List Projects to get all active projects, then uses Execute Custom GraphQL to fetch total and completed record counts per project in a single query. The completion percentages are written to a Google Sheets dashboard and a summary is posted to your leadership Slack channel — the full report is assembled within about a minute of the scheduled run.
Is Blue's GraphQL API fully accessible, or are there restrictions?
The Execute Custom GraphQL action gives agents access to Blue's full GraphQL API — both queries and mutations. Standard actions cover the most common operations (create, update, list, tag, invite), but if you need complex nested queries, cross-project aggregations, or operations not covered by the standard set, the custom query action provides full API access. Blue imposes rate limits on its API, so high-volume operations should include appropriate pacing.
Can the agent create tasks with checklists inside Blue?
Yes. The Create Record action supports checklists — structured sub-task lists inside a Blue record. When creating an onboarding task, an incident response record, or a contract review task, you can pass a list of checklist items and they appear as trackable sub-tasks inside the Blue record. This is particularly useful for standardising complex multi-step processes so every record starts with a consistent breakdown.
