SalesFinanceEcommerceDeveloperAutomationPayments

Lemon Squeezy is the all-in-one payments, subscriptions, and license-key platform built specifically for software businesses. It handles checkout, tax compliance, subscription billing, and digital license management so developers can focus on building rather than financial infrastructure. Connect it to Actionist and your agents can react to every purchase, subscription change, or license event — routing customers into onboarding flows, updating CRMs, managing churn, tracking revenue, and automating licence delivery without anyone touching the Lemon Squeezy dashboard.

New customer CRM onboarding at checkout

When an order is placed, the agent retrieves the customer record from Lemon Squeezy, creates or updates a CRM contact in HubSpot with the correct plan tier, posts a new-customer alert to the #new-customers Slack channel, and triggers the personalised welcome email — all before the customer has finished reading the Lemon Squeezy receipt.

FAQs

Questions about Lemon Squeezy + Actionist

How does Actionist connect to Lemon Squeezy?
Go to the Apps tab in Actionist, find Lemon Squeezy, and click Connect. Actionist connects via the Lemon Squeezy API using an API key you generate in your store's settings. In Lemon Squeezy, go to Settings then API and generate a new key. Paste the key into Actionist and click Test connection — Actionist runs a read-only verification call before any actions run.
What permissions does the API key need in Lemon Squeezy?
The Lemon Squeezy API key inherits the permissions of the user account that generates it. For Actionist to read and react to orders, subscriptions, and license keys, generate the key from an account with access to the stores you want to automate. There are no separate OAuth scopes — the API key either has access to the store or it does not. Use a dedicated API user account if you want to limit which stores the agent can see.
How quickly does Actionist react to a new order or subscription event?
Lemon Squeezy sends webhook events to Actionist within seconds of an order, subscription change, or licence key creation. Actionist processes the webhook and your agent starts acting on it within about a minute. For time-sensitive flows like licence key delivery or payment recovery emails, this means your customer sees a response before they have finished reading the Lemon Squeezy receipt.
Can Actionist handle subscriptions across multiple Lemon Squeezy stores?
Yes. You can connect multiple Lemon Squeezy stores to Actionist by adding a separate API key connection for each store. Your agents can then be configured to act on events from one specific store or across all connected stores. This is useful if you run separate stores for different products or regions and want a unified automation layer across all of them.
What happens when a payment fails — does Actionist automatically pause or cancel the subscription?
Actionist does not automatically change a subscription's status on payment failure — that is controlled by your Lemon Squeezy dunning settings. What Actionist does is react to the Subscription Payment Failed event by sending recovery communications, flagging the CRM record, and escalating high-value accounts to your sales team. If you want the subscription paused after a number of failures, you can configure the Update Subscription action as part of that recovery flow, but the decision to pause requires Approval Modes confirmation before any destructive change runs.
Can I use Actionist to create personalised checkout links at scale?
Yes. The Create Checkout action generates a unique Lemon Squeezy checkout URL pre-filled with a customer's email, the product variant, and optional price overrides or discount codes. This is the standard path for sales-assisted deals, winback campaigns, and trial-to-paid conversion emails. You can call it for a single customer or loop it across a list of prospects from a Google Sheet or CRM export.
How does Actionist handle licence key delivery if I sell software via Lemon Squeezy?
When an order completes and a licence key is generated, Lemon Squeezy fires the License Key Created webhook. Actionist picks this up within about a minute and your agent can retrieve the key details using Get License Key, then send a branded delivery email with the key string and installation instructions. This replaces the default Lemon Squeezy receipt with your own template and gives you full control over the onboarding experience from the moment of purchase.
Can Actionist disable a licence key if a customer asks for a refund or a chargeback is confirmed?
Yes. The Update License Key action can set a key's status to disabled immediately. You can wire this into a refund or chargeback flow so that when an Order Refunded event fires, the agent retrieves the associated licence key and disables it in the same action sequence. The key disable happens within about a minute of the refund event, without anyone logging into the Lemon Squeezy dashboard. The action requires Approval Modes confirmation before running, so your team stays in control of every revocation.
