Paste text and fire desktop alerts on demand

ProductivityDeveloperAutomationNo-CodeMonitoring & Alerts

Clipboard Genie is a desktop automation node that lets agents write text directly into the clipboard and trigger native system notifications on the local machine. Connect it to Actionist and your agents can push formatted summaries, digests, or action items straight to your clipboard at the end of a task, and surface urgent alerts as native desktop notifications without opening a browser tab or chat window.

Eliminates manual work. Agents eliminate the manual cycle of opening multiple tabs to copy context before meetings, writing briefings and digests from scratch, and monitoring for urgent alerts that would otherwise land in email.

Daily briefing clipped and notified at start of day

Each morning the agent pulls priorities from Notion and open items from Google Sheets, formats a structured daily briefing, writes it to the clipboard via Clipboard Genie, and fires a desktop notification. The user pastes the briefing into their notes doc in one keystroke and starts the day organised.

FAQs

Questions about Clipboard Genie + Actionist

What does Clipboard Genie actually do?
Clipboard Genie is a lightweight desktop utility with two operations: Create Text Item, which writes a string of text directly into your operating system clipboard so you can paste it anywhere, and Show Notification, which displays a native system notification on your desktop with a custom title and message. When connected to Actionist, your agents can trigger either action at the end of a task.
How does Actionist connect to Clipboard Genie?
Go to the Apps tab in Actionist, search for Clipboard Genie, and click Connect. You will be prompted to enter an API key generated from your Clipboard Genie desktop application. Once the API key is entered and the connection tested, Actionist agents can call the Create Text Item and Show Notification operations on your local machine.
Does the Clipboard Genie desktop app need to be open for agent tasks to work?
Yes. Clipboard Genie is a local desktop app, so the application must be running on your machine for agents to write to the clipboard or fire system notifications. If the app is closed, agent calls to Clipboard Genie operations will fail. Keeping the app running in the background is the expected setup.
Can agents write any text to the clipboard, or is there a character limit?
The Create Text Item operation accepts any plain text string. There is no enforced character limit in the Actionist integration itself. You can send brief one-liners or multi-paragraph formatted summaries. For most business use cases such as call-prep cards, budget snapshots, and policy summaries, the operation works without restriction.
How quickly do desktop notifications appear after the agent fires them?
Actionist task engine processes agent actions within about a minute of the trigger firing. Once the Show Notification call is made, the native desktop notification appears within seconds on the local machine. The within about a minute window refers to the trigger-to-action pipeline timing, not the notification display time itself.
Can multiple team members use Clipboard Genie through Actionist?
Each installation of Clipboard Genie is tied to a single desktop machine. To have multiple team members receive clipboard writes or desktop notifications, each team member needs their own Clipboard Genie installation and a separate API key connected in their own Actionist account.
Is Clipboard Genie useful on a cloud-hosted Actionist plan?
Clipboard Genie interacts with your local desktop, so it works best when Actionist is running on the same machine. On cloud runtime plans (requires a cloud runtime subscription), agents run in the cloud and call Clipboard Genie API to reach your local desktop app. The desktop app must be online and connected for the call to succeed. If your machine is off or the app is closed, cloud-triggered notifications will not reach you.
What are the most common agent tasks that use Clipboard Genie?
The most common patterns are: pre-meeting prep where an agent formats and clips a call-prep or interview card 15 to 30 minutes before the calendar event; scheduled briefings such as morning briefings and budget snapshots clipped at a fixed time each day or week; deadline alerts where the agent fires a Show Notification when an invoice or contract deadline is approaching; and task completion where a long agent task ends with a notification confirming the output is ready.
