Eliminates manual work. Agents eliminate the manual cycle of checking absences, chasing approvals, reconciling timesheets, auditing documents, and building headcount reports — tasks that individually take minutes but collectively consume hours of HR, finance, and operations time every week.

When a new employee record appears in BrightHR, the agent retrieves the full profile, creates an onboarding checklist in ClickUp, sends a personalised welcome email via Gmail, and books a first-week check-in in Google Calendar — all before the hiring manager has had their morning coffee.

FAQs

Questions about BrightHR + Actionist

How does Actionist connect to BrightHR?
Go to the Apps tab, find BrightHR, and click Connect. Actionist opens a BrightHR OAuth authorisation window — sign in with your BrightHR credentials and grant access. The agent runs a test call to confirm the connection before any actions are performed. Your BrightHR login credentials are never stored by Actionist; only the OAuth token is retained.
What BrightHR data can agents read and act on?
Agents can read employee records, absence requests, approved absences, holiday allowances, rota and shift data, Blip clock-in and clock-out records, HR documents, timesheet submissions, and department information. The scope is read-only on the BrightHR side — agents retrieve the data and take action in your other connected apps (Slack, Google Sheets, ClickUp, Gmail, and so on). Write-back to BrightHR is not currently supported.
How quickly does the agent react when a new absence request is submitted?
The New Pending Absence Request trigger polls BrightHR at regular intervals, so the agent reacts within about a minute of the request being raised. You can expect the line manager to receive a Slack notification and the calendar placeholder to appear within about a minute of the employee submitting their request — not instantly, but well within the same working session.
Can agents automate the full employee onboarding when I add a new starter in BrightHR?
Yes. When the New Employee Added trigger fires, the agent can retrieve the employee's profile from BrightHR, create an onboarding task list in ClickUp or Notion, send a personalised welcome email via Gmail, provision IT access by opening a ticket, and book a first-week check-in in Google Calendar — all automatically. The agent connects BrightHR to any other app in your stack that supports the process.
Does the Blip integration work for tracking clock-ins and clock-outs?
Yes. BrightHR's Blip time-and-attendance app is supported via the Blip Clock In and Blip Clock Out triggers. Each time an employee clocks in or out, the agent can log the event, calculate hours worked, flag late arrivals to line managers, or write hours to a payroll spreadsheet. Admin users see all clock events; managers see their own team's events; employees see their own.
Can the agent help with payroll by pulling timesheet and hours data?
Yes. The agent can retrieve Blip clock-in and clock-out records and timesheet submissions for any employee or period, calculate total hours worked, compare them against contracted hours, and write the results to your payroll spreadsheet in Google Sheets. Overtime and discrepancies are flagged automatically. The agent does not connect directly to payroll software — it surfaces the data and sends it to wherever your payroll team works.
How can agents help with right-to-work and document compliance?
The agent can list all employee documents stored in BrightHR and check expiry dates. Any document expiring within your chosen threshold — typically 30 days — is flagged in a compliance tracker and an alert is sent to the HR team. The agent can also check whether specific document types (right-to-work, signed contracts, policy acknowledgements) are on file for every active employee and chase any that are missing.
Do agents need admin-level access to BrightHR, or does it work with a standard user account?
The permissions the agent has in BrightHR depend on the account that authorises the OAuth connection. Admin accounts give the agent visibility of all employees, all absences, and all documents across the organisation. Manager accounts limit the view to the manager's own team. For full cross-organisation automation — headcount reports, compliance sweeps, Bradford Factor calculations — it is recommended to connect with an admin account.
