Branded short links and click analytics on your own domain

MarketingProductivityAnalyticsDeveloperAutomationWebsite & CMS

Short.io is a white-label link management platform that lets you create, track, and manage branded short links on your own custom domain. Every link carries click analytics by country, device, and referrer; QR codes are generated automatically; and geo-targeting rules let a single short URL serve different landing pages to visitors from different countries. Connect it to Actionist and your agents can shorten any outbound URL, pull real-time click and domain statistics, generate QR codes for assets, retire expired campaign links, and add country targeting — all without anyone logging in to the Short.io dashboard.

Proposal link tracked before it hits the inbox

When the sales team posts a proposal URL in the #deals Slack channel, the agent checks whether a short link already exists for that URL, creates one on the sales domain if not, and logs it to the deal tracker. Every proposal goes out with a clean branded link — the rep knows the moment the prospect opens the document.

FAQs

Questions about Short.io + Actionist

How does Actionist connect to Short.io?
Go to the Apps tab, find Short.io, and click Connect. The recommended path is an API key — go to Short.io → Account Settings → API → Create API Key, copy the key, and paste it into the API key field in Actionist. Actionist runs a test call (List Links) to confirm the handshake before any actions run. You can also connect via OAuth if your plan supports it.
What permissions does the agent need on my Short.io account?
Short.io issues a single API key per account. That key inherits the permissions of the account owner. For read operations (Get Link by Path, Get Link by Long URL, Link Clicks, Domain Statistics, Link List) the key needs read access. For write operations (Create a Short Link, Update a Link, Delete a Link, Expire a Link, Generate QR Code, Create Country Targeting) it needs write access. By default the generated API key has full access — scope it to read-only if you only need analytics.
Can I connect Short.io to other apps in the same workflow?
Yes. Short.io is most powerful when combined with the apps where links are created and shared. Common combinations: auto-shorten new content URLs from HubSpot or Notion; pull click data into Google Sheets weekly; post branded short links into Slack messages or email drafts; use the New Link Created trigger to fire downstream workflows in any connected app. Any of Actionist's 200+ connected apps can work alongside Short.io in the same agent task.
Do I need a custom domain to use Short.io with Actionist?
Short.io requires a custom domain for all branded short links — it is not a public shortener like bit.ly. You must add and verify a domain (or subdomain) in Short.io's dashboard before creating links. Once verified, your agent uses that domain for every Create a Short Link call. You can have multiple custom domains in one account and target different domains per agent task — for example one domain per brand, region, or campaign type.
What are the most common things agents do with Short.io?
The most common patterns: (1) auto-shortening — any time a URL is generated elsewhere (a new page, a proposal PDF, a campaign asset), the agent creates a short link before it gets shared; (2) click reporting — fetching weekly click data per domain or per link and pushing it to a dashboard or Slack digest; (3) link auditing — retrieving links by path or long URL on a schedule to catch expired or broken redirects before they cost you traffic; (4) geo-targeting — creating country-specific redirect rules so the same short link serves different landing pages to visitors from different countries.
Can I set a custom slug, expiry, or country redirect when creating a short link?
Yes. When you create a short link via Actionist's Create a Short Link action, you can specify the custom path (the back-half of the URL). If you leave it blank, Short.io generates a random slug. You can also set an optional expiry date, tags, UTM parameters, and title — all as parameters of the same action. For country-specific redirects, use Create Country Targeting for a Link to point visitors from a given country to a different destination URL.
Can I trigger an agent task when a Short.io link is clicked?
Short.io webhooks fire on the New Link Created event, which is available as a trigger in Actionist. The trigger polls Short.io within about a minute of the event and fires your downstream agent task. There is no built-in per-click trigger — to watch a specific link's click activity, use a scheduled Link Clicks action and compare the count against your last recorded value. If the count has changed, fire your downstream logic.
How do I make a Short.io link expire automatically after a promotion ends?
Use the Expire a Link action to set an expiry date and time on an existing short link. After the expiry, Short.io either shows a 404 or redirects to a URL you configure in your domain settings. This is useful for limited-time promotions, seasonal campaigns, or any link that should stop working after a fixed date. You can also update an expired link's destination with Update a Link to reactivate it for a new campaign.
