The next-generation CRM built for relationship-driven teams

CRMSalesCommunicationProductivityAutomation

folk is a modern, flexible CRM that helps teams manage contacts, companies, pipelines, and outreach in one connected workspace. With a clean spreadsheet-like interface, folk lets you create custom fields, group and filter your contact database any way you need, and run personalised email sequences without leaving the tool. Connect it to Actionist and your agents can create and update contact records the moment a new lead appears, fire off follow-up tasks when a company changes, search your database before every outreach, and keep folk in sync with every other tool in your stack — all without anyone opening the CRM manually.

New lead captured and briefing delivered before first call

When a new contact form is submitted and logged to a Google Sheet, the agent searches folk to avoid duplicates, creates or updates the Person record with source tag and ICP tier, posts the lead summary to #new-leads in Slack, and books a follow-up task in the rep's calendar — all before the rep even sees the lead.

With Actionist

What your agent runs for you

  • Sales
    40 min / week
    Manual lead entry into folk

Reps copy contact details from emails or forms into folk by hand, remembering to add the source tag and pipeline stage — adding several minutes to every new lead and often skipping fields under time pressure.

    Sales Agent
    0 min
Agent creates and updates folk records instantly

When a new lead arrives from any source, the agent searches folk, creates the Person with tags and ICP tier, and notifies the rep — all before they see the lead in their inbox.

  • Marketing
    35 min / week
Manual folk tagging and list export

Marketing manually exports the event attendee list, looks up each person in folk, and applies tags one by one — a task that takes 30+ minutes for a 100-person webinar and is often skipped entirely.

    Marketing Agent
    0 min
Agent segments and tags folk contacts automatically

After each webinar or campaign, the agent tags all attendees or respondents in folk with the event name and ICP tier, building a ready-to-use outreach segment without any CSV work.

  • Customer Support
    30 min / week
Manual CRM lookup for every ticket

Support agents open folk in a separate tab, search for the contact manually, and copy relevant details into the ticket tool before responding — 3-5 minutes of overhead per ticket, every time.

    Customer Support Agent
    0 min
Agent surfaces folk account context at ticket arrival

When a support ticket arrives, the agent retrieves the sender's folk Person and Company records and posts the account tier, renewal date, and interaction history alongside the ticket thread.

  • Human Resources
    25 min / week
    Manual candidate record creation

Recruiters copy candidate details from the ATS or email into folk by hand, often hours or days after application, resulting in a CRM that's always behind the actual hiring pipeline.

    Human Resources Agent
    0 min
Agent creates and tags folk candidate records automatically

When an application arrives, the agent creates the Person in folk with role, source tag, and pipeline stage — the hiring manager's folk view is current without any manual data entry.

  • Finance
    20 min / week
Manual folk field updates after contract events

Finance updates folk Company records with new renewal dates and contract values manually after each signing, often a day or more after the event and only when someone remembers to do it.

    Finance Agent
    0 min
Agent updates folk renewal dates the moment contracts sign

When a contract renewal is logged in the tracking sheet, the agent updates the folk Company record immediately — finance and sales always work from the same renewal date.

  • Operations
    45 min / week
    Manual CRM hygiene reviews

Ops manually audits folk for incomplete records, blank owners, and duplicate contacts once a month at best — data quality drifts between reviews and bad data reaches outreach lists.

    Operations Agent
    0 min
Agent runs folk hygiene and assignment sweeps weekly

Every Monday, the operations agent identifies folk records with missing owners, blank tags, or stale stages and notifies the responsible team members — the CRM is clean before the week starts.

  • Legal
    10 min / week
    Manual GDPR erasure processing

Legal manually searches folk for the requester, logs the request details in a spreadsheet, sends an email to the data officer, and adds a manual note to the account — a process that takes 20+ minutes per request and depends on no one being out of office.

    Legal Agent
    0 min
Agent processes GDPR requests and logs compliance notes automatically

When an erasure request arrives, the agent finds the matching folk records, logs the request to the compliance tracker, alerts the data officer, and notes the pending erasure on the Company record — within about a minute.

FAQs

Questions about folk + Actionist

How does Actionist connect to folk?
Go to the Apps tab in Actionist, find folk, and click Connect. You'll be prompted to enter a folk API key — generate one in your folk workspace under Settings → API → Create new API key. Paste it into Actionist and click Test connection. Actionist runs a read-only call to confirm the handshake before any actions run. The key only needs to be entered once per workspace.
What permissions does the API key need on my folk account?
folk API keys are workspace-level credentials tied to the generating user's permission level. For read actions (Find a Person, Get a Company, List People in Group) the key needs read access to your contacts and companies. For write actions (Create Person, Update Company, Add Note) it needs write access. If you generate the key as a workspace admin or member with full CRM access, both are covered automatically. folk does not currently offer granular scope selection at the API key level.
Can I use folk alongside other apps in the same Actionist workflow?
Yes — folk is most useful as part of a multi-app workflow. Common combinations: create a Person in folk when a row is added to Google Sheets; retrieve a Company record before composing a Gmail outreach; log a note after a Google Calendar meeting ends; sync a pipeline stage update to Notion or Slack. Any of Actionist's connected apps can send data to or receive data from folk in the same scheduled agent task.
What are the most common things agents do with folk?
The four patterns that come up most often: (1) auto-capture — creating a Person in folk the moment a lead arrives from any source, with tags applied from the intake data; (2) pre-call briefing — fetching the full Person and Company records before a meeting and formatting them into a Slack message or Google Doc; (3) cross-system sync — updating folk fields when a deal advances or a contract is signed elsewhere in the stack; (4) note logging — writing structured summaries of calls and meetings to the relevant folk record automatically, keeping the full team informed without manual CRM updates.
Can Actionist trigger workflows when something changes in folk?
Yes. folk provides webhook-based triggers that fire within about a minute of an event: Person Added, Person Updated, Person Removed, Person Custom Field Updated, Company Added, Company Updated, Company Removed, and Company Custom Field Updated. These cover the full lifecycle of contact and account data, so you can build agent tasks that react to CRM changes in near-real time — for example, notifying the sales team when a contact's ICP tier custom field is updated, or starting an onboarding flow when a Company record is created.
How do I avoid creating duplicate Person records in folk?
Use Find a Person before Create Person whenever the contact might already exist. The agent searches folk by email address first — the most reliable unique identifier — and only calls Create Person if no match is returned. If a match is found, it calls Update Person instead, adding any new fields or tags to the existing record. This 'find or create' pattern keeps your folk database clean and prevents the same contact appearing multiple times with split history.
Can I use folk's custom fields with Actionist?
Yes. When you call Create Person, Update Person, Create Company, or Update Company, you can pass values for any custom field defined in your folk workspace by name. Similarly, Get a Person and Get a Company return all custom field values alongside the standard fields, so the agent can read a 'Health Score', 'Contract Status', 'ICP Tier', or any other field you've defined and use it as a condition or input in the same workflow. Custom fields are a first-class part of the folk data model that Actionist can read and write.
What folk plan do I need to use the API with Actionist?
folk's API access is available on their paid plans (Standard and above). The free trial includes limited API access for testing. If you're on the Standard or Premium plan, you can generate API keys in Settings → API and there is no separate add-on required. Check folk's current pricing at folk.app/pricing for the latest plan details, as plans and API rate limits are subject to change.
