Turn ecommerce email and SMS automation into a hands-free revenue engine

MarketingCommunicationAnalyticsEcommerceAutomationEmail Marketing

Drip is the ecommerce email and SMS marketing platform built for direct-to-consumer brands — it combines subscriber management, visual workflow automation, campaign sequencing, and deep ecommerce integrations (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce) into one purpose-built engine. Connect it to Actionist and your agents can create and update subscriber profiles, apply lifecycle tags, enrol contacts into nurture campaigns, fire custom events that trigger Drip workflow branches, and react to email events — bounces, clicks, opens, opt-outs — across all your connected systems within about a minute of the event firing.

Post-purchase nurture starts the moment an order closes

When a new order is placed in Shopify, the agent updates the buyer's Drip subscriber record with order data as custom fields, applies the product-category tag, and subscribes them to the post-purchase nurture campaign — all within about a minute of the order confirmation. Revenue attribution is simultaneously logged to Google Sheets. The email sequence starts with full purchase context and zero manual setup.

What your team gets back — two angles: what you stop doing manually, and what that's worth.

Without Actionist

What you do manually today

With Actionist

What your agent runs for you

  • Sales
    18 min / week
    Manual Drip enrolment per deal

Reps open Drip, search for the contact, verify their tags, and manually subscribe them to the next campaign — 4 to 6 minutes per deal, every time the pipeline stage changes.

    Sales Agent
    0 min
Agent tags and enrols new leads automatically

When a deal moves stage in HubSpot, the agent applies the matching Drip tag and subscribes the contact to the corresponding nurture campaign — the sequence starts within about a minute, with no manual Drip visit.

  • Marketing
    25 min / week
Manual subscriber tagging and list management

The marketing team manually applies tags, updates segments, and subscribes contacts to campaigns via the Drip UI — consuming hours each week on list hygiene alone.

    Marketing Agent
    0 min
    Agent manages lifecycle tags automatically

Tag additions, removals, and campaign enrolments happen within about a minute of the triggering event — purchase, form fill, engagement score update — with no manual Drip session required.

  • Customer Support
    30 min / week
    Manual bounce and complaint processing

The support team manually monitors Drip bounce and complaint reports, exports bad addresses, and updates the suppression list in each connected system — a weekly task that easily takes 30 minutes.

    Customer Support Agent
    0 min
Agent suppresses bounced and complained subscribers cross-system

When a bounce or complaint fires, the agent exits the subscriber from all campaigns, updates their status field, and appends them to the cross-system suppression list — all within about a minute.

  • Human Resources
    12 min / week
Manual Drip list management for HR comms

HR manually adds new hires to the Drip onboarding list and removes leavers — a task that requires Drip access, correct tag knowledge, and 5–10 minutes per person per event.

    Human Resources Agent
    0 min
Agent enrols new hires and offboards departures automatically

New hires are subscribed to the Drip onboarding campaign before their start date; departing employees are globally unsubscribed on their last day — both without manual Drip access.

  • Finance
    20 min / week
    Manual invoice chase emails

The finance team tracks outstanding invoices in a spreadsheet and manually sends reminder emails on day 3 and day 7 — a repetitive process that consumes time better spent on analysis.

    Finance Agent
    0 min
    Agent fires invoice-reminder events automatically

When invoices are generated, the agent fires a Drip custom event that triggers the payment-reminder sequence — finance never manually chases outstanding invoices by email.

  • Operations
    35 min / week
    Ad-hoc manual subscriber data maintenance

Operations manually audits Drip subscriber records when data quality issues surface — usually after a campaign misfires or a report shows unexpected segment sizes.

    Operations Agent
    0 min
Agent maintains subscriber data quality on a weekly schedule

The operations agent sweeps for missing custom fields, orphaned tags, and campaign enrolment drift every week — the database stays clean without a dedicated Drip admin.

  • Legal
    15 min / week
    Manual opt-out compliance logging

Legal manually exports Drip unsubscribe reports, cross-references them with other platforms, and updates the compliance log — a process that happens weekly and can miss same-day opt-outs.

    Legal Agent
    0 min
Agent logs and propagates opt-outs cross-system within about a minute

Every global unsubscribe from Drip is logged to the compliance tracker and propagated to HubSpot automatically — the legal team has a complete audit trail without any manual action.

FAQs

Questions about Drip + Actionist

How does Actionist connect to Drip?
Go to the Apps tab in Actionist, find Drip, and click Connect. You will need a Drip API key: log in to Drip, navigate to User Settings → API Token, copy your token, and paste it into the API key field in Actionist. Actionist then runs a read-only test call to verify the connection before any agent actions run.
What permissions does the Actionist agent need on my Drip account?
Your Drip API token carries the same permissions as your account. For read operations (looking up subscribers, tags, campaign data), the token must belong to an account member with at least viewer access. For write operations (creating or updating subscribers, adding tags, triggering events, subscribing contacts to campaigns), the token owner needs editor or admin access. Drip does not offer granular OAuth scopes — the token is all-or-nothing at the account level.
What triggers does Drip support in Actionist and how fast do they fire?
Drip's webhook-based triggers fire within about a minute of the underlying event occurring in Drip. Supported trigger events in Actionist include New Subscriber, New Subscriber Tag, New Email Open, New Email Click, New Email Bounced, New Email Complained, New Campaign Subscription, New Campaign Unsubscribe, New Custom Event, New Global Unsubscribe, Remove Subscriber Tag, Remove Campaign Subscription, Complete Campaign, New Trigger Link Click, Update Custom Field, and New Page Visit. These cover the full lifecycle of an ecommerce subscriber.
Can I connect Drip to other apps in the same Actionist workflow?
Yes. Drip is most powerful when paired with the apps where your sales and customer data live. Common combinations: add a tag in Drip when an order closes in Shopify or WooCommerce; subscribe a new lead to a campaign when they fill in a Typeform or Google Form; push new Drip subscribers into HubSpot or Airtable; trigger a Slack alert when a high-value subscriber completes a campaign; remove a tag when a support ticket closes in Zendesk. Any of Actionist's 400+ connected apps can send data to or receive data from Drip in the same agent task.
What are the most common things agents do with Drip?
The four patterns that come up most often for ecommerce teams: (1) subscriber lifecycle tagging — agents add or remove tags based on purchase, browse, and support events so every email campaign stays surgically targeted; (2) post-purchase nurture enrolment — when an order is confirmed, the agent subscribes the buyer to the right post-purchase campaign without manual list management; (3) win-back sequencing — agents subscribe churned or lapsed buyers to a re-engagement campaign the moment a re-engagement trigger fires; (4) event-driven personalization — agents trigger custom Drip events from your store or app so workflow branching stays accurate without relying on email-only signals.
How do I avoid creating duplicate subscriber records in Drip?
Use the Create or Update Subscriber action. Drip identifies subscribers by email address — if a record with that email already exists, Drip updates it in place (merging tags and custom fields) rather than creating a duplicate. If no record exists, it creates a new one. This means you can safely call Create or Update Subscriber from any trigger without checking for existence first.
Can an agent enrol a subscriber into a Drip email campaign automatically?
Yes, via the Subscribe to Campaign action. Pass the subscriber's email and the campaign ID (found in the Drip URL when viewing a campaign). The agent subscribes the contact at the start of the campaign sequence. If the subscriber is already enrolled in a campaign, Drip will not double-enrol them — it respects your account's duplicate-enrolment settings. To remove a subscriber from a campaign mid-sequence, use the Remove From Campaign action.
What happens in Actionist when a Drip email bounces or a subscriber complains?
When the New Email Bounced or New Email Complained trigger fires, the agent knows the subscriber's email address and the campaign that triggered the event. A common pattern is to immediately update the subscriber's status (via Create or Update Subscriber, setting a custom field like `email_status: bounced`) and remove them from active campaigns (Remove From Campaign) to protect your sender reputation. You can also push the bounced email to a suppression list in Google Sheets, HubSpot, or your CRM automatically — so no bounced address ever re-enters a send list through another path.
