Benchmark Email is an email marketing platform that helps businesses build, send, and track email campaigns with audience segmentation, automation workflows, A/B testing, and detailed reporting. Connect it to Actionist and your agents can add and update contacts across all your lists, move subscribers between lifecycle stages, schedule campaigns from your content calendar, pull opens and clicks data straight to your team's dashboards, clean lists of bounces and lapsed contacts on a schedule, and execute GDPR deletion requests automatically — without anyone logging into the Benchmark Email dashboard.

New CRM lead enrolled in email nurture within minutes

When a new contact is created in HubSpot, the agent checks whether they already exist in Benchmark Email, adds them to the appropriate nurture list based on their lifecycle stage, and populates their custom fields with CRM data. The lead receives the first nurture email within about a minute of being created in the CRM — no manual import required.

  • Sales
    45 min / week

    Sales Agent
    0 min

  • Marketing

    Marketing Agent
    0 min
Agent schedules campaigns and delivers reports automatically

The agent stages and schedules campaigns from the content calendar, then posts open rate, click rate, and top-clicked link to Slack after each send — no Benchmark Email login needed.

  • Customer Support
    60 min / week

  • Human Resources

    Human Resources Agent
    0 min
Agent enrols and offboards employees in email lists on day one and last day

New hires are added to the onboarding email sequence with department custom fields populated before their first day. Departing employees are removed from all lists the same week they leave.

  • Legal
    20 min / week

FAQs

Questions about Benchmark Email + Actionist

How does Actionist connect to Benchmark Email?
Go to the Apps tab in Actionist, find Benchmark Email, and click Connect. Select the API Key method — then log in to your Benchmark Email account, navigate to Settings, and generate a new API Key. Paste that key into the field in Actionist and click Test connection. Actionist runs a read-only verification call before any actions run, so you know the handshake is solid before any agent task executes.
What permissions does my Benchmark Email API key need?
You need an API Key generated from Settings inside your Benchmark Email account. The key must be created by an account owner and should be given the appropriate permissions for the actions you need — read-only scopes for reporting and list-inspection tasks, write scopes for creating contacts, scheduling campaigns, and modifying automation workflows. Actionist stores the key encrypted and uses it only for the agent tasks you authorise.
Can I combine Benchmark Email with other apps in a single workflow?
Yes. Benchmark Email works well alongside CRM tools (HubSpot, Salesforce), spreadsheet tools (Google Sheets), and project management apps (Notion, ClickUp). Common combinations: when a new lead is added to HubSpot, the agent adds them to the correct Benchmark Email list; when a campaign report is ready, the agent pulls open and click rates and writes them to a Google Sheets dashboard; when a new employee is onboarded in your HRIS, the agent subscribes them to the relevant internal comms list. Any of Actionist's 200+ connected apps can work alongside Benchmark Email in the same workflow.
What are the most common things agents do with Benchmark Email?
The four patterns that come up most: (1) list hygiene — cleaning unsubscribes, bounces, and inactive contacts on a schedule so list quality stays high; (2) CRM-to-list sync — automatically adding or removing contacts in Benchmark Email when records change in your CRM; (3) campaign performance reporting — fetching open rates, click rates, and unsubscribe data after each send and pushing the numbers to a dashboard or Slack digest; (4) automation management — adding new contacts directly into the right automation step based on their behaviour in other tools.
Can the agent schedule email campaigns in Benchmark Email automatically?
Benchmark Email supports campaign scheduling via the API — you can set the send date and time when creating or updating a campaign. The agent can stage a campaign's content, assign the recipient list, and schedule the send, all in one agent task triggered by another event in your workflow (for example: when a product launch is marked Ready in Notion, the agent schedules the announcement email in Benchmark Email for the planned launch date). No manual dashboard steps needed.
Can Actionist pull campaign performance data out of Benchmark Email?
Yes — the agent can call the campaign reports endpoint after a send to retrieve open rate, click rate, unsubscribe count, bounce count, and per-URL click data. These numbers can be written to Google Sheets, posted as a Slack digest, appended to a Notion campaign log, or used as conditions inside the same workflow (for example: if click rate is below 2%, flag the campaign for a content review task in ClickUp). No manual report exports required.
Does Benchmark Email support triggers or webhooks in Actionist?
Benchmark Email does not expose native event-based webhooks that Actionist polls for triggers the same way some other email platforms do. Instead, use scheduled agent tasks: set the agent to check a list, pull a campaign report, or audit contacts on a cadence (daily, weekly) rather than waiting for a platform-fired event. This scheduled approach covers the vast majority of real marketing operations use cases without needing real-time trigger support.
Can the agent create and manage contact segments and lists in Benchmark Email?
Yes — the API supports creating and managing segments and contact lists. The agent can create a new contact list from scratch, copy or merge contacts from one list to another, and create segment criteria to filter contacts by custom field values, engagement status, or other attributes. This is useful when your CRM or e-commerce platform is the source of truth for how customers should be grouped — the agent keeps your Benchmark Email lists in sync without manual imports.
