New lead captured → nurture sequence starts within minutes

From the moment a lead hits the CRM, the agent confirms they're not already in ActiveTrail, routes them to the correct nurture group, and fires a personalised welcome email — all within about a minute of the form submission. The sales team gets a Slack ping so they know a warm lead just entered the pipeline.

What your team gets back — two angles: what you stop doing manually, and what that's worth.

Without Actionist

What you do manually today

With Actionist

What your agent runs for you

  • Sales
    45 min / week
    Manual CRM-to-email list exports

Reps or an ops person exports a contact list from the CRM, reformats it as a CSV, uploads it to ActiveTrail, and manually assigns the contacts to the right group — taking 30–60 minutes per segment.

    Sales Agent
    0 min
Agent syncs CRM contacts to ActiveTrail groups automatically

When a new lead is created or a deal stage changes in the CRM, the agent immediately routes the contact to the correct ActiveTrail group — no export, no upload, no manual group assignment.

  • Marketing
    60 min / week
Manual campaign reporting across email and SMS

The marketing team logs into ActiveTrail, navigates to each campaign's report, copies open rates and click counts into a spreadsheet, and formats a summary for the weekly meeting.

    Marketing Agent
    0 min
Agent pulls and formats campaign reports automatically

The Marketing Agent fetches reports for all campaigns sent in the past week and posts a ranked, formatted digest to Slack before the weekly planning meeting — no dashboard visits required.

  • Customer Support
    30 min / week
Manual opt-out processing with lag risk

Opt-out requests arrive via support inbox, are flagged for the marketing team, and processed manually in ActiveTrail — sometimes taking days, creating compliance exposure.

    Customer Support Agent
    0 min
Agent processes opt-outs within minutes and logs them

The Support Agent calls Unsubscribe Contact within about a minute of receiving an opt-out request and logs the action in the compliance tracker — no lag, no manual hand-off between teams.

  • Human Resources
    40 min / week
    Manual new-hire onboarding email setup

HR manually adds each new hire to the ActiveTrail onboarding group, checks they have the right email sequence assigned, and sends the welcome email — adding 20+ minutes of admin per new starter.

    Human Resources Agent
    0 min
Agent adds new hires to the onboarding group and fires the sequence

When HR confirms a new hire in the HRIS, the agent adds them to the correct ActiveTrail group and the welcome sequence fires automatically — zero manual steps in ActiveTrail.

  • Finance
    50 min / week
Manual invoice email and payment reminder dispatch

Finance sends invoices and payment reminders by hand — copying customer emails, drafting messages, and tracking who has been chased and when in a spreadsheet.

    Finance Agent
    0 min
Agent sends transactional invoices and SMS payment reminders automatically

When an invoice is generated or goes overdue, the agent dispatches the correct ActiveTrail transactional email or SMS campaign within about a minute — no manual send, no forgotten follow-ups.

  • Operations
    60 min / week
Manual bulk contact imports for events and partners

When event badge data or a partner contact list arrives, someone on operations manually formats the CSV, uploads it to ActiveTrail, creates the group, and assigns the contacts — a multi-step process that takes 30–90 minutes.

    Operations Agent
    0 min
Agent creates the group and imports the list in one step

When a contact list file lands in Google Drive, the agent creates the event group in ActiveTrail and bulk-imports all contacts within about a minute — the follow-up email sequence is firing before anyone returns from the event.

  • Legal
    30 min / week
Periodic manual compliance audits of the subscriber list

Legal manually pulls the subscriber list from ActiveTrail and cross-references it against the consent register — a monthly task that takes 1–2 hours and still leaves a 30-day gap in oversight.

    Legal Agent
    0 min
Agent runs weekly consent audits and flags unconsented contacts

The Legal Agent retrieves all group contacts weekly, cross-references them against the consent database, and flags any contact without a matching consent record before the next campaign send — catching compliance gaps in days, not months.

FAQs

Questions about ActiveTrail + Actionist

How does Actionist connect to ActiveTrail?
Go to the Apps tab in Actionist, find ActiveTrail, and click Connect. You'll be prompted to enter an API Key, which you generate from your ActiveTrail account under Settings → Integrations. Paste the key into Actionist, and the agent runs a test call to confirm the handshake. Once connected, the agent can read and write contacts, groups, and campaigns on your behalf — no further configuration needed.
Which ActiveTrail features does the agent actually use?
The Actionist agent uses ActiveTrail's REST API to manage contacts (add, update, get details, unsubscribe, bulk import), manage groups (create groups, list group contacts), run campaigns (trigger email sends, trigger SMS sends, send transactional emails), and retrieve analytics (campaign reports, click reports, unsubscribe reports, contact activity histories). Landing page creation and the visual campaign editor remain inside the ActiveTrail dashboard — the agent handles the operational and data tasks, not the design work.
Can Actionist trigger my existing ActiveTrail automation workflows?
Actionist can add contacts to groups, which in turn fires any ActiveTrail automation triggered by group membership — so you can set up a 'Joined Leads Group → Welcome Sequence' automation inside ActiveTrail and the Actionist agent will trigger it simply by adding the contact to that group. For email campaigns, the agent calls the send endpoint for campaigns you've pre-built inside ActiveTrail. The agent does not build or edit ActiveTrail automation journeys itself — those are authored in the ActiveTrail campaign editor.
Does Actionist support ActiveTrail's SMS channel?
Yes. Actionist can trigger SMS campaign sends via the ActiveTrail API to any group with opted-in mobile numbers. The SMS content is authored inside the ActiveTrail SMS campaign editor; the Actionist agent handles the send trigger, group routing, and scheduling. Make sure your ActiveTrail plan includes SMS sends and that contacts have a valid phone number stored on their record before the agent triggers the campaign.
How does Actionist help with GDPR and email marketing compliance?
The Legal Agent can process opt-out requests by calling Unsubscribe Contact in ActiveTrail within about a minute of receiving a request — far inside the 30-day GDPR window and the 10-business-day CAN-SPAM requirement. It also pulls unsubscribe reports after every campaign send to verify that all opt-outs were processed, and logs each action with timestamps to the compliance register. Actionist doesn't determine whether a contact's consent is valid — that's a legal and product decision — but it does ensure opt-outs are executed and documented without delay.
Can Actionist combine ActiveTrail with my CRM to keep contacts in sync?
Yes — syncing CRM contacts to ActiveTrail is one of the most common patterns. The agent can watch your CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, or a Google Sheets registry) for new or updated contacts and call Add Contact to Group or Update Contact Details in ActiveTrail accordingly. In the other direction, it can pull campaign engagement data (opens, clicks) from ActiveTrail and write it back to the CRM contact record. You can also import bulk contact lists from any source the agent has access to using the Import Contacts action.
What permissions does the ActiveTrail API key need?
ActiveTrail API keys are account-level and carry full read and write access to the account — there is no granular scope system for standard REST API keys. This means the agent can read and write contacts, groups, campaigns, and reports for your entire account. Use a dedicated API key for Actionist (not a shared key), and revoke it from the ActiveTrail Integrations settings if you ever need to disconnect. If you have multiple sub-accounts or brands in one ActiveTrail account, the agent operates across all of them under the same key.
How does Actionist handle unsubscribed contacts when importing a bulk list?
When you use Import Contacts via CSV, ActiveTrail's API respects existing unsubscribe status — contacts already marked as unsubscribed in your account will not be re-subscribed by an import. The import updates other fields (name, phone, custom attributes) but does not override the opt-out flag. If you're importing a co-marketing or partner list, you should verify that each contact on that list has explicitly opted in before the import; ActiveTrail's terms of service and marketing regulations require it, and Actionist cannot validate consent on your behalf.
